Three Get Reckless
Driving Charges
Three single-car crashes in Rappahannock in the past week netted the operator’s of the vehicles reckless driving charges, according to local officers, July 14 at 11 p. m. on Route 211 two miles west of Washington, a 1964 Pontiac station wagon owned and operated by Robert E. McLaughlin of Wash ington , D. C.,ran off the right of the highway and struck a utility pole. McLaughlin received cuts on the nose and left hand. Mrs. Rose Marie Hudson, also of Washington, D. C., suffered a contusion of the forehead. Damage to the vehicle was estimated at $700 and to the pole $100, according to Trooper W. A. Buntin, who charged the operator with reckless driving. Early Saturday, at 4; 15 a. m., Robert Edward Frye of Flint Hill, struck a bridge abutment on Route 522 north of Huntly. According to Trooper J. B. Willis, Frye was proceeding south when he apparently went to sleep, ran off the right of the road and struck the bridge. He sustained cuts of the right arm and abrasions of the left, leg and was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital by Flint Hill Rescue Squad where he was treated and released. The vehicle, a 59 Chevrolet, was declared a total loss, said Trooper Willis, who placed a charge of reckless driving against Frye. At 12:30 a. m. Sunday morning, July 17, on Route 211, two miles west of Sperryville, Steven Lloyd Wickersham of Falls Church wrecked the 61 Volkswagen sedan he was operating. According to Trooper J. B. Willis, Wickersham rounded a curve at Beech Springs, lost control of the car and overturned, coming to rest on the lefu-to wa*„aot injured. Damage was estimated at $400 and the driver was charged with reckless driving.
