This old brick building on Gay Street near the courthouse in Washington will eventually house a county museum which the Historical Society hopes to establish in the future. Very little factual history of the building has been obtained, however, it is thought to have been used as a tavern, county clerk’s office, outside kitchen for Avon Hall, and lawyer's office, among other things. The Virgihia Telephone A Telegraph Company owned it and housed local equip* ment in it until they constructed a new exchange building last year. The company gave the old building to the Historical Society and. a lot on which to put it. The structure was moved (in pictures above) IS feet to the new lot.
