The Virginia Commission of Outdoor Recreation created by the 1966 General Assembly held its first meeting in Rich mond July 12, state Senator Fitzgerald Bemiss, who beaded the legislative study commission in this field, was elected Chairman of the group. Former Game Commission Chairman Holman Willis,

Jr., of Roanoke was amjbng those appointed by the governor to serve on the new Commission and Game Commission Executive Director Chester F. Phelps is one of the ex-officio members est» blished by statute. Other appointees to the Out door Recreation Commission include Ira N. Cabrielson of Oaktpn, President of the Wild life Management Institute, Daniel G. Van Clief of Charlottesville, and Dr. Roy Jarrett, Jr., of Virginia Beach. Ex-officio members include Marvin M. Sutherland, Direct or of the State Department of Conservation and Economic Development, Douglas B. Fugate, Commissioner of Highways, and Edwin E. Holm, Jr., Assistant Director of Re search for the State Department of Industrial Develop ment and Planning. The group will work to coordinate Outdoor Recreational development in the state and will allocate an estimated $2 -million per year in Land and Water Conservation Fund moneys to various agencies of state and local government. At their first meeting, the Commission agreed to hire a director and a staff to get the program rolling.
