The Sperryville Firemen concluded a very successful fournight carnival Saturday in spite of adverse conditions. The rides scheduled to arrive the first of the week failed to show up until Friday due to mechanical difficulties enroute and rain Thursday night quickly thinned the large crowd which had attened the parade. Gross proceeds were about $9,500 which is less than usual, however estimated net returns will not vary from the normal pattern. Prize winners of the event were W. L. Wetzel of Woodstock who was awarded the Chevy II. June Whitmer of Huntly was given the $50 Savings Bbhd^5rrft! "Charles H. Estes, Sperryville the $25 one. Fifteen silver dollars went to Walter C. Jenkins, Sperryville and John Hicks of Culpaper got the auto battery. A case; of motor oil went to J. E. Cleary, Sperryville and R. S. Jordan of Arlington won the auto tire. Mrs. Levey Franklin, Winchester was awarded the $10 in groceries.
Parade winners Thursday night were: best pumper over 500 population, Penn Daw, with Vienna in second place; best pumper under 500 population was Spotsylvania and Mineral running second. Vienna was awarded the trophy for the best appearing pumper in parade line. Penn Daw was also named the company coming longest distance. Vienna also recieved the best appea i - ing rescue squad award. Strasburg Ladies Auxiliary was cited in first place with the Amissville Ladies stepping gingerly into second place The Blossomette majo rettel group was named in first place in that category.
