was injured while hunting groundhogs. Shotguns were responsible for 9 injuries, high powered rifles for one and small bore rifles for one. Four of the eleven accidents occurred at lesh than 10 yards, 6 at distances from 10 to 50 yard* and one at greater range. Most occurred in light to open cover on clear or slightly overcast days. Careless gun handling was. the cause of most of the ac-^ cidents. A couple of the mishaps involved mistaken iden tity of the target and several involved victims caught in the line of fire. Dropped or otherwise accidentally. discharged weapons were responsible for most. Six of the shooters and 5 of the victims were under 19 years of itge. None had completed a hunter safety training course.
