Xmas Mailing Tips
Postmaster, Thomas E. Lonergan, urges all patrons to observe the following Christmas mailing tips for this year* Shop Early - Enjoy the Chris* mas Season by shopping early and by mailing early to avoid the rush period. Mail Early-Greeting cards for distant states should be mailed before December 15 and all others by Dec. 20. Use Zip Codes - Use Zip Codes in mailing addresses and return addresses for letters and parcels. ZIP, CODES mean fewer handlings and more direct shipment of mail. Prepare Parcels Well - pack parcels solidly, use strong boxes and strong wrapping paper, and tie with good cord. Put a slip inside parcel listing contents and nameof sender and addressee. Make Christmas Mailing List - Prepare a new mailing list or correct addresses on old list and add ZIP CODES whereever possible. Advantage of First Class Mail - Greeting cards with 5(5 stamps may be sealed, may contain written messages, are given first handling and may be forwarded or returned If addresses are known or given, Greeting cards with 40 stamps have none of these advantages. Use Special Mall ServicesTake advantage of Air Mail, Special Handling and Special Delivery services for fast delivery. Make Timely Mailings-Mail everything possible at the post office between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Rural Patrons- Rural patrons are reminded that all letters and greeting cards to be picked up by carriers during the Christmas period must have stamps already on them.
