Catfish Stocked
In State Waters
Approximately 75,000 channel catfish fry were stocked in various public fishing waters around the state during November, Game Commission Fish Division Chief R. G. Martin reports. The largest allotments went to Carvin's Cove and Occoquan Reservoirs. Several Game Commission lakes were included on the stocking list.
The 2-3* catfish usdd for stocking were provided by the Charles City National Fish Hatchery and were distributed by Game Commission personnel and equipment. In newly stocked waters it has been found that the cats reach 1 1/2 pounds their first year, 3 pounds their second and 5 pounds their third. Growth is somewhat slower in waters with established fish populations. The state record channel, a 21 pound 8 ounce spec! men taken from Lake Brittle could not have been more than 8 years old.
