Falsifying licenses
: In the month of October the Division of Motor Vehicles has arrested twenty-two persons j throughout the state of Virginia for falsifying their appli cation for operator's license. X spokesman announced that this increase in the rate of arrests is the result of intensified field work by the Division to insure greater safety onour highways. It is expected that the intensified program will continue with an increase in tiie number of arrests resulting from use of the records of the Driver Registry Service of the Bureau of Public Roads in Washington. The Bureau of Public Roads has for a number of years maintained a National Driver Registry Service. Most state motor vehicle divisions participate in the registration service by sending reports of driving permits revoked for drunk driving or manslaughter Original issue operator permit records are also sent tc the Driver Registry Service. In Virginia, when an operator’s license is issued to an individual for the first time, tills individual’s name is sent to the registration service in Washington and compared with the record of all drivers from all states who have had permits revoked for either of the two reasons given. If the driver infact has made a material false statement he will be charged With falsifying his application for operator’s license. The question is asked on the application prepared by the Division of Motor Vehicles, *Hs8 your license or privilege to drive been suspended or revoked in this state or elsewhere?” Any driver who applies for an operator *8 license must certify that all information hi the application is true and correct.
