Production Increases
Pulpwood production in Virginia for 1965 totalled 2,421,000 cords. This was an increase of 14 percent over the 2,130,100 cords reported the previous year, and. compares. with a 7 percent increase as reported for the entire South. This information was contained in a report entitled "Southern Pulpwood Pro ductlon, 1965," as prepared by the Southeastern and Southern Forest Experiment Stations in cooperation with the Southern Pulpwood Conservation Association.
Virginia’s production of 2.4 million cords placed it 7th in rank in the South as compared with 8th position in 1964. It is exceeded by Georgia, with 6.2 million cords; Alabama, with 4.9; Florida, with 2.9; North Carolina, with 2.9; South Carolina, with 2.6; and Louisiana, with 2.5. The total of 30.8 million cords for all 12 southern states represents 63 percent of the (Nation’s total.
Virginia’s production consisted of 2,094,200 cords of round pulpwood plus 326,800 cords of chips for wood residues. In 1964 the comparable volumes were 1,883,800 cords of round pulpwood and 246,300 cords o-f chips. This, the
