$9 Mil. in Contracts
Nineteen contracts totaling $9,046,020 were awarded Thursday by the State Highway Commission. Bids on the projects, which include additional-con• struction on Interstate 85, were opened here on February 8.
The largest single contract amounted to $3,341,907, and i was awarded to B. G. Young i and Sons, Inc., and the Unaka Paving Co., Inc., of Johnson [City, Tenn., for the 1-85 work, i provides for grading and i drainage for a 9.78-mile section of the interstate route extending from a completed por tion of 1-85 near South Hill to a point six miles north of the Mecklenburg-Brunswick county line. The contracts awarded tod£y also provided for additional construction on Arterial Routes 29 in Culpeper and Madison Counties and 460 in Buchanan County. The list of contract awards: Culpeper and Madison Counties— Arterial US29-7.88 miles of parallel 1 anes to divide from 5.42 miles east of the Madison-Culpeper Coun ty line to 2.48 miles west of the line, with a completion date of October, 1968. J. M. Turner and Co., Inc., Salem, $1,567,331. Arlington, Prince William and Fauquier Counties - Interstate 66- further demolition and cleanup of debris on sections of right of way, for future construction. Branch & Asso elates, Inc., Roanoke, $12,777. Culpeper County - Route 647 1.67 miles of reconstruction, with aggregate base course, and a bridge over Summerduck Run, east of Raccoon Ford. Hott & Miller, Wardens ville, West Virginia, $132,079.
