On July 11, 1966, in Geneva County, Alabama, a farmer took his two-year-old daughter for a ride in his pickup truck. While returning, he! stopped for a few minutes at! the pig-pen, leaving the little! girl in the truck. Also,.in the truck was a soda bottle containing a concentrate of toxaphene and lindane. During the few minutes the child was alone, she drank a little of the liquid and became violently ill She died in the hospital 16 hours later. On October 1, 1966, in Union Spring, Alabama, a 48 percent parathion emulsifiable concentrate was painted by mistake on the backs of several registered Hereford bulls and cows to control flies. Three bulls and two cows died. The concentrate was properly labeled and the accident was a result of carelessness.
