An amendment to the present Dodd bill 53691 has even gone so far as to propose the withholding of Pittman-Robertson funds from states that do not pass “suitable” anti-gun legislation. These are funds derived from the 11% excise tax on arms and ammunition. There again, the sportsman’s money.
Have you seen any young birds? Personally, in my travels I’ve seen only one young covey. Hiat was the 20th of June and those birds were just starting to fly. I’ve had very few reports of young ones and it seems that just about everyone agrees that there are a lot of adult pairs. Possibly the rains in late May and June worked on the “peepers”. Let’s hope Bobwhite will come back strong with a second hatch.
River fishing nearby seems to be on the upswing. Though nothing real big has been taken most anglers that take the time to work the streams good seem to be landing a few “keepers”. Though the lower Rapidan and Hazel have been muddy most of the Spring and Summer, the Thornton and upper Rappahannock have remained fairly clear. The latter two seem to have been the best streams this summer so far. If lake fishing is your pleasure give some thought to going down to Orange Lake, a Commission owned lake 4 miles east of
