Sperryville firemen opened their annual fund raising carnival last night and it will continue through Saturday with a grand parade scheduled for tonight, Thursday at 7 p. m. EDT. Miss Jan Minnich, “Miss Shenandoah i Apple Blossom”, will be marshal i leading the approximately one hundred units entered. Included in the parade lineup are bands from Taylor High School, John S. Mosby and Stafford High School and j Charlestown, W. Va. High School; individual and group majorettes; fire and rescue equipment; marching units; floats and antique cars.
Each night there will be rides, games, fun and amusements for everyone in addition to hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks and desserts from the food booth. A plate supper will be available on the grounds Thursday night following the parade.
Friday night’s feature will be the crowning of a carnival queen. She will be the honorary fire chief for the next year representing Sperryville Fire Department in other parades and activities. Climaxing the four-night event will be the awarding of prizes, including a grand prize, a 1968 Rambler American 2-door sedan. Other prizes are a $50 Savings Bond; a $25 Savings Bond; a walnut chair; auto battery; $10 in groceries and a case of motor oil.
There will be adequate parking space for good viewing of the parade and also at the carnival grounds. A new amusement stand has been constructed on the grounds for more comfort and convenience.
