Vespers Speaker
The Rev. Robert P. Parker, D. D., since 1965 the President of Randolph Macon Academy at Front Royal will be the featured speaker at the fourth service in the 28th Sunset Vespers series next Sunday evening, July 21st. A carillon recitat at 7:45 p.m. by Charles T. Chapman will precede the vespers. Promptly at 8:15 p.m. the sunset worship service will begin.
The musical setting for the evening will be presented by the Columbia Chorale, of Columbia Baptist Church, Falls Church, Virginia with Malcolm H. Scott as Director. Leader of the evening is The Rev. J. Blaine Blubaugh, pastor of Page Methodist Charges, with the Assistant Leader being The Rev. Cecil Haycock, pastor of Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren, Luray.
A native Virginia, Dr. Parker graduated from Jefferson Senior High School in Roanoke in 1934. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Randolph Macon College, Ashland, in 1938. In 1942 he was graduated from Yale Divinity School as a Bachelor of Divinity, magna cum laude. Randolph Macon College awarded him the Doctor of Divinity degree in 1960. Six years later he received the Master of Education degree from the University of Virginia.
In the Virginia Conference of the Methodist Church he has held pastorates at Bedford, Danville, Ashland, and Richmond. His effective service as pastor of the Westover Hills Methodist Church in Richmond extended over a period of seven years. At Randolph Macon College he served as Instructor in English and German 1938-39, and was Assistant Professor in Bible 1949-51.
Dr. Parker has been eminently successful in his Conference-related responsibilities as Vice-Chairman of Commission on Christian Vocations, 1952-56; District Missionary Secretary, Richmond District, 1964-59; Dean, Virginia Conference
