The Ruritan Club of Amissvilie wound up the old year with a packed session last Wednesday evening The members were treated to a full course turkey dinner, given a highly informative and interesting talk concerning the work of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and completed the program with the installation1 of the entire new slate of officers and project chairmen.
The dinner provided under the leadership of Mrs. F. L. Bowey was tastefully arranged and served by the ladies of the Amissvilie Baptist Church. Setting aside the regular business, President Gilbert Lawrence called for the introduction of the evening’s speaker Mr Joseph E. Ziel was presented by the chairman of the Citizenship and Patriotism Committee as the Assistant Special Agent of the Richmond office of the F B I. A member with twenty-seven years experience throughout the nation, Mr. Ziel with the meticulous and symbolic thoroughness of the Bureau outlined both those duties not incumbent upon the agency as well as the services which constitute their program.
Introducing his subject by saying that a basis for good cit^enship and patriotism is a knowledge of our government agencies, he identified a number of areas not covered by the F.B.I. The Bureau does not guard the President or Vice President, nor does it investigate counterfeiting, postal theft, narcotic traffic nor evasion of Federal Income Tax. Having placed his audience in a more relaxed mood by this bit of information, he proceeded to list the responsibility in the crimes of kidnapping, interstate traffic in stolen cars, non-registry for the draft, impersonations of government inspectors or U.
