Sewing Contest
Rappahannock County is one of sixteen counties in Virginia that composes District V Make It Yourself With Wool competition, ni Vifg’inia, two’ ireas of competition are available; Junior Division, Age 14-16, and Senior Division age 17-21, with three catagories in each: two piece suit, wool dress and wool coat. From Rappahannock County, Mary Frances Carter, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Starks of Woodville, is planning to participate in the Senior Division at the district contest on October 24 at Riverheads High School in Augusta County.
A top winner in each catagory will be selected to represent District V at the state Make It Yourself With Wool Contest and will be given as their prize an expense paid trip by Clearbrook Woolen Mills of Clearbrook, Va to this contest on November 21 and 22 at George Washington Hotel in Winchester.
The second place winner in each catagory will be given a skirl length of material donated by Clearbrook Woolen Mills. Othei district prizes will be given by Bonnie Bell Cosmetics, The Butterick Company, Inc., Coats and Clarks, Inc., Dritz, Scrovil] Manufacturing Co., Modes Royal* Pattern Company, and Unique Zipper Distributing Service.
All entries must be made from American loomed knitted oi felted wool. The fabric must be at least 95% wool. The fabric may contain specialty fibers designed by the Wool Products Labeling Act. Judging will be based on th* coordination of fabric and design for the individual, and on th* fashion merit, workmanship and appearance of the garment.
