Dear Editor:
Last week the Rapp. News carried a report by Mrs. Harris on the latest developments on the proposed Potomac Edison transmission line through Rappahannock and I’m appalled by one fact in particular. When the Board of Supervisors and a group of citizens over whose land the line will probably be run filed separate requests to the State Corporation Commission that they reconsider the permit they issued (without a public hearing) to the Potomac Edison Company, the State Corp. Comm, replied that it is not within their authority to determine “where transmission lines are to be located or what they are to look like” which leaves our county vulnerable, and also (here’s the horrible meaning of it all) the State Corporation Commission doesn’t even consider those landowners whose property will be spoiled as “interested parties”. The law does provide for a hearing with “interested parties”, but the Commission considers other power companies only to be interested parties and feels no obligation either to landowners or Boards of Supervisors.
