Starks Guilty in
Manslaughter Cases
Randolph W. Starks of Woodville was found guilty on two charges of manslaughter in Rappahannock County Circuit Court when the cases were heard by Judge R. V. Snead Monday, February 8. The 20-year-old Negro youth faced the charges as the result of a single-vehicle traffic crash September 13, 1970. Starks was operating a 1957 Chevrolet which crashed on Route 211 east of Massies Corner. Two passengers, Melvin Dunn, 16 and Leroy Freeman, 17, both of Washington, Va., were killed.
Starks were severely injured in the wreck and three other passengers escaped lesser injuries.
The Judge directed the probation officer to prepare a pre-sentence report which will be heard at the March 8 term of the circuit court. Starks was confined to the county jail to await sentencing.
