Ext. Agent Natural Bridge, Virginia Beef Cattlemen’s Convention. Change is the dominant theme of this sometimes boisterous, but always friendly gathering of Virginia’s beef producers. Listening to the hotel room bull sessions and the lobby conversations, the whole language of the trade has changed. Many thinking men are sticking with their favorite breed and concentrating on changing to meet changing demands. But crossbred talk is everywhere. Angus Hereford crosses, Jersey crosses, Holstein crosses, Charolias and Semitol crosses. There is no consensus, just new ideas. Mr. Charles G. Scruggs, rancher, Vice President and Editor, The Progressive Farmer, Dallas, Texas, was one of the most stimulating speakers and the following is based on notes from his presentation.
