The Rural Environmental Assistance Program is designed to put greater emphasis on practices to reduce water pollution. Water retaining and retarding measures on farms are a major factor in reducing pollution from agricultural, wastes. State and county REAP Development Groups will give much consideration to practices that include such installations as dams and ponds, permanent cover, waterways, buffer strips, and tree planting.
Applications for the spring practices listed above should be filed at the county ASCS office as soon as possible after February 8, 1971. Applicants are cautioned not to begin work until they have filed for their cost-shares with the county committee. In making this announcement for the Rappahannock County ASC Committee, Mr. Barksdale emphasized that practices performed under the Rural Environmental Assistance Program by Virginia farmers will be of great value im solving our conservation and environmental problems.

Not intentionally. Surveyors inadvertently began working on one property along the route before the owner was contacted for permission. But, this is unusual.
