Basically, it will assure them continued, reliable electric service. We made studies in 1968 and 1969 that showed that voltages at substations serving these counties would be so low by 1972 that regulating devices could not provide voltages to oui customers that are within standards of acceptable voltage variation limits. Low voltage can cause lights to flicker, TV pictures to shrink, etc., and can cause damage to electrical motors such as those on refrigerators or freezers.
With this new line, customers will have reliable service for all their electrical needs.
How long would the line be?
A little over 30 miles long. It would begin at the Riverton generating station north of Front Royal in Warren County and continue south through Rappahannock County to Boston substation located in Culpeper County. About 8 miles of the line would be in Warren County, 22 miles in Rappahannock, and less than 1 mile in Culpeper.
