ASCS Announces

REAP Signup

H. S. Barksdale, Chairman of the Rappahannock County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Committee today announced that February 8, 1971 was the opening date for the spring signup of the Rural Environmental Assistance Program (REAP), formerly known as the Agricultural Conservation Program (ACP) in Rappahannock County. The practices which will be authorized in this signup will be those concerning the establishment of permanent vegetative cover, planting forestry trees and shrubs, improving vegetative cover, water impoundment reservoirs, and improving stands of forest trees. Mr. Barksdale explained that neither the State nor county REAP Development Groups had completed the full slate of conservation and pollution abatement practices that would be offered in the county. These practices will be announced as soon as they are developed. The practices listed in the spring signup are those which need to be started now. Costs for carrying out these approved practices will be shared with farmers. Further details will be given at the time
