Reporting on conversations with Rappahannock residents, the Chairman of the Red Corss of Rappahannock county said that he found concern and some feeling of urgency for effective programs in these areas. On the basis of a limited sampling, Chairman William W. Parkinson rated the county high in its responsiveness and readiness to work. He said people realize that everyone has a lot at stake. When blood is needed it is imperative that it be available and within a low price range, which is what a volunteer blood program makes possible. When disaster hits it is too late to get ready. Every citizen knows that you have to be prepared. Fortunately the county is relatively free from some dangers but a series of tornadoes, the crash of a large passenger plane or a sudden severe blizzard could mean trouble. Civil Defense has plans under consideration and Red Cross has national stand-by services, but everyone with any county leadership responsibility has some role in real disaster preparedness. There are other Red Cross services of interest to Rappahannock, the Chairman said, but last week’s conversations were mainly limited to these two

A Ham and Chicken supper is scheduled for Saturday, May 15, 1971 at the old Forest Grove School building near Viewtown. Dinner will be served from 5 until 9 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Forest Grove Baptist Church.
