Virginia bear hunters who were present in large numbers at the Virginia Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries hearing apparently made their point well since the Commission defeated its proposal which would have delayed bear season until the opening of the statewide deer season on November 15, giving the bear hunters back their week headstart with a bear season beginning November 8 and ending December 31. Deer seasons were endorsed as proposed giving Northern Virginia from Albemarle, Orange and Spotsylvania a season limit of two deer instead of one as in past years.
Rappahannock will have two deer per license year and one doe day, January 5.
Turkey hunters will be able to pursue gobblers in Madison and Rappahannock, for the first time in many years this fall, but will be restricted to bearded birds only. A spring gobbler season in all but 5 southwestern counties in 1972 was
