lne Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors met at the court house in Washington on Thursday, August 5, 1971 for its regularly scheduled meeting with the following members present: Chairman J. Newbill Miller; L. H. Luttrell, Norman Wilbur, Herbert Foster.
As the first order of business the nfinutes were read and approved for adoption. Mrs. Frances Thornton, Public Health Nurse for the county, was present and requested the appropriation of $200 to assist with dental care for some patients under her jurisdiction. The Board approved the request. P. M. Stewart of the Virginia State Health Department informed the Board of complaints registered in regard to the open dump at Amissville which is used by the county. He suggested that it should be closed as soon as possible and recommended that Rappahannock might combine with a neighboring city or county to use the sanitary land fill method of waste disposal. The Board agreed to make an effort to comply and asked the Trash Committee to contact adjoining counties or towns on the matter of a combined facility. Claims of $16.25 for a lamb and $25 for two shoats were approved for payment from the dog fund and an attempt to secure payment from dog owners initiated. Mrs. Mary Cleverley, General Registrar for the county, appeared to tell the Board that she did not have sufficient office space for her equipment. The Board agreed that she might use the office adjoining that of the Sheriff and used by department in the court house. At the request of Norman Wilbur and Sheriff Charles K. Estes, the Board authorized the Trash Committee to locate dumpster units at Peola Mills and Castleton. Ian Pryde of Washington, Va. was named to fill a vacancy on the
