Wildlife Essay
Contest Announced
The theme for the twenty-fifth annual Wildlife Essay Contest will be, “How Wildlife Conservation Needs Can Be Met In My Community,” according to the Coordinator of the contest, Game Commission Information Officer Francis N. Satterlee. The now quarter-century old contest is open to Virginia school children in grades 5 through 12 and is sponsored jointly by the Virginia Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries and the Virginia Division of the Izaak Walton League of America.
Featuring a total of $3,600.00 in cash awards, the contest is endorsed by the Virginia ResourceUse Education Council and the Resource-Use Education Committee of the Virginia Academy of Science. In addition to the $50.00 prize for the best essay written in each of the school grades and numerous honorable mention cash awards, two college scholarships, one for $1000.00 and a second for $400.00 are awarded each year to winning high school seniors.
