Two bridges have recently been constructed in Rappahannock County and opened for use. The Rappahannock River Bridge joining Rappahannock and Fauquier counties was done by a construction company. It features a special sloped construction, tinted cement, wooden top railing and unpainted guard rail and support beams. The steel in the bridge is not painted but allowed to rust. After it reaches a certain rusting point, this ceases and acts as a permanent protective cover. Much money is saved by the elimination of bridge painting which is costly in time and money. The construction also blends into the rural scenery. At right is the old truss bridge which is being dismantled.
