A Rappahannock man underwent open heart surgery in !>-. Cleveland, Ohio on Monday. To correct his serious heart condition, blood vessels were taken from his limbs and used to replace diseased vessels in his heart. Much blood was necessary for transfusions to complete the delicate surgery successfully.
No member of this man’s family had ever been a donor to the American Red Cross Bloodmobile which left him ineligible to receive blood from the Blood Bank. In addition, Ohio is in a different Red Cross District from us. However, through the intensive efforts of local citizens who work with the Bloodmobile and the Fauquier Chapter, American Red Cross, of which Rappahannock is an affiliate, the necessary blood was provided. A point in favor was the fact that Rappahannock had improved attendance at the Bloodmobile recently, coming nearer, though not « quite reaching, its quota.
This blood used must be repaid, and it will be up to us to “help our neighbor”, just as each of us would wish to be helped. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Armory in Warrenton on February 14 and is scheduled to visit Rappahannock County in April. Be a donor and help a friend, or make it your business to establish credit for yourself or your family with the Blood Bank, if you have never done so. This is an explicit example of the excellent job done by the Red Cross Bloodmobile whose efforts can only be as good as the people behind it.
