ritiAr tunas are usea in Rappahannock County and other agricultural counties throughout the nation to share costs with farmers who establish environmental and conservation practices with long-term soil and water benefits. The two national guidelines themes for 1972 REAP are to remain the same as for 1971: stopping soil from washing into streams and lakes, and improving the quality of the environment The County ASC Committee sets up the local priorities for REAP cost-share practiced needed in Rappahannock County.
For 1972, the County ASC Committee will be carefully assessing the County’s need for such practices as: Establishing permanent grass covers to hold the soil in place; preventing pollution through animal waste management practices; and building ponds, diversion terraces or other detention structures to control soil and chemical runoff • - the number one pollutant of water.
