Rappahannock County High School Cross Country Team continued its successful season by placing third in a state invitational meet Saturday at Blacksburg, and producing the second place runner. The Panthers competed in the First Virgiinia Polytechnic Institute Cross Country Invitational Meet for high school teams which was attended by nine teams from all over the State.
Laurel Park High School, near Danville took first place and Blacksburg High School, whose team trained at Va. Tech, placed first and second. Competition involved approximately one hundred runners. Charles Thomas, continued his great first season and captured second place in the huge field, running 2.8 miles in 14:33. However, a single man does not constitute a team. Bill Taylor, placed seventeenth with John Summers, four seconds behind him in eighteenth place. Tom Taylor was twenty-sixth and Bransom Jenkins trailed him by two seconds in twenty-eighth position. Bobby Foster and Bobby Titchenell, finished fifty-ninth and sixty-fourth, respectively. In a field of a hundred runners, all from much larger schools, this is a very fine performance. Clark Trial Set

Rasby Marshall Clark of Flint Hill, charged with the killing of George Pullen, also of Flint Hill, will be tried in Rappahannock County Circuit Court on January 21,1972. A preliminary hearing for Clark took palce October 29 and he was certified to the grand jury which indicted him November 8. The slaying of Sullen, who was Clark’s son-in-law, occurred October 9, apparently after a family disagreement. Other action in Circuit Court Monday included a plea of guilty by Reuben William Smoot to charges of grand larceny. He was convicted on the plea and is in jail awaiting a pre-sentencing report before sentence is passed. The larceny occurred in Flint Hill in June and involved checks and cash taken from a service station. A trial by jury for Charles Jenkins of Sperryville who is chargd with driving under the influence was set for January 10.
