State Trooper

Trooper R. A. Baines jr., Virginia State Police, reported for permanent duty in Rappahannock County on Monday, December 20, 1971. He fills the vacancy created When Trooper J. B. Willis of Sperry ville requested a transfer to Culpeper County. A resident of Baldwins ville, N. Y., at the time .of appointment, Mr. Baines graduated from Suffolk High School in 1962 and the following year studied at Elon College in North Carolina. He won high school letters in basketball and football and is interested in fishing and sports. From 1963 until 1966 he served with the Army and was discharged a specialist fifth class. He is married to the former Lynne Baker of Suffolk and they have two sons, Robert and Richard, 5 1/2 and 2 1/2, respectively. Employed as a conditionally appointed trooper March of this
jyear, he underwent five months of !field training in Fairfax County before attending Basic Training School in Richmond for 21 weeks. ^Trooper Willis has assumed his duties in Culpeper and will move his family there at the close of school in June. He had served in Rappahannock since May of 1965.

The Offices in the courthouse at Washington, Va. and the Rappahannock County Clerk’s Office in the adjoining building will close at noon Friday, Christmas Eve, and remain closed through Monday, reopening for business Tuesday morning, December 28. The Rappahannock County Treasurer’s Office will close at noon Friday, but will be open on the following Monday for regular business hours. No announcement has been made for the New Year’s holiday week-end.
