Three flee work gang
THREE INMATES of the Culpeper prison camp, members of a crew working on the highway in Rappahannock County Tuesday, escaped and fled into brush and woods nearby. The three Negro males H. Crittendon, 0. Fleming and C. Connelley — made the break while at work on Route 211 just west of Washington.
Trooper R. L. Bruce of Winchester, with his trained dog, was summoned and tracked the trio for about two miles until they came to and apparently crossed a small stream. At this point the scent was lost.
One of the escapees, O. Fleming, was later apprehended in Fairfax County after he took a car belonging to Richard Pierson in Amissville during the night. Camp Captain Ned Skinner was in Fairfax Wednesday morning to negotiate his return.
During Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning a vehicle owned by Mrs. George H. Davis Jr. Mayor of the Town of Washington, was stolen and ii is believed that one or both of the two remainini escaped prisoners took it. The two had been seer earlier by residents on Route 626 east of the town
