FREDDIE HART, who wrapped up five major Grammy Awards of the Academy of Country and Western Music this month, will be the Firemen’s Marshal of the 45th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Winchester, May 5-7.
The Capitol Records recording artist has appeared on Country Music charts for some years with many hits, a number of which he wrote, including “The Whole World Holding Hands,” “One More Mountain to Climb,” and “My Hangup is You.”
The most popular, “Easy Loving,” has sold over a million records, and was largely responsible for the Grammy Awards which were Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Writer of the Year, Entertainer of the Year, and Most Promising Male Vocalist, said a Festival spokesman.
Hart will lead the Firemen’s Parade on Friday night, May 5, in what was described by a Festival spokesman as “the largest aggregation of volunteer firemen and fire fighting equipment that we know of in the nation,” and the singer will be featured at a post-Parade Firemen’s Ball. The spokesman added that he would also appear in the Grand Feature Parade on Saturday afternoon, which is scheduled to be led by Grand Marshal Billy Graham and Queen Shenandoah XLV Shelley Wellons Moore of West Virginia. □
