Arrests by the State Police clearing the courts during 1971 totalled 230,793 according to Colonel H.W. Burgess, Superintendent of the Department.
He noted that 96.6 per cent, or 222,932, involved the highway and that 95.2 percent, or 219,740, were for direct traffic offenses. The overall conviction rate was 93 percent.
