How to build a chair lift
The only way to get 30-foot steel towers into place for a new chair lift at the Rappahannock Ski Area near Washington, Va., was by “sky hook,” so a H-58 Sikorsky helicopter was called in to do the job. Blackie Corning of Perkasie, Pa., had to fight cross winds of up to 50 mph in getting the job done Monday, and only dropped one. Robert Palmer, manager of the ski area, didn’t mind — he remembered worse things, like last year’s snow-less, frostless winter. He’s hoping for better things this year on Rappahannock’s slopes.
