DELIVERING THE KEYNOTE address at the meeting, Arundel warned that “facing the huge tide of urban growth from Washington, the Piedmont today is something like a grat, beautiful ship which has already sprung a few leaks, and if we fail now to set her on a planned course then she is quite certain to sink in the storm just ahead.”
Arundel added that “without hard and specific planning, backed by the teeth of law, these open spaces will at the present rate be gone within 15 years, denied forever to the nation, our urban neighbors and to those who now live upon it and bear the trust of the future.”
