FORMATION OF THE Piedmont Citizens Environmental Council was announced Saturday, November 18, after 18 months of quiet planning. The major new citizens organization is designed to work for “orderly planned growth” of Virginia’s nine eastern Piedmont counties from the Potomac River to Charlottesville.
The new Council’s organizational meeting, attended by citizens from across the region, was held at Oatlands, n<»ar Leesburg in Loudoun County.
The Council announced its intention to support efforts and provide technical assistance at all levels of government to see that “the rush of development now beginning here takes into account the desires of residents and the preservation of the natural character of this region.”
