LEIGH CITED two big snows which fell in Northern Virginia — one in November and the other in February — as “the worst in the state last year” so far as depth, snarled traffic and highway blockage were concerned.
Snow started falling on Thanksgiving eve and resulted in the most monumental traffic jam ever known in Loudoun County . Some estimates had 35,000 to 40,000 vehicles snowlocked on Route 7 and U.S. 50 Thanksgiving morning. Snow reached depths of 24 inches in some parts of the county.
In February, another storm hit the area and snow accompanied by gale-like winds, fell to depths of 20 inches and drifted as high as 12 to 15 feet
