STANDING almost ready now across the state are some 300,000 tons of chemicals and abrasives stockpiled at more than 350 locations, plus a virtual armada of mechanized heavy equipment for combatting snow and ice.
There are 422 motor graders, 311 loaders, 122 dozers, more than 2,000 trucks withplows, 1,500 sp readers for laying chemicals and abrasives and 19 rotary snowplows — those big blowers so effective in flattening drifts.
All equipment is undergoing on-the-spot checking and testing and will be used in practice runs later this month as maintenance personnel go through simulated exercises in snow removal.
