GAME APPARENTLY IS ABUNDANT this year and the deer kill for the first two days of the hunting season was almost double that of the previous year. According to the five checking stations in Rappahannock County, 92 deer had been checked by Tuesday night. The total kill for the first two days in 1971 was 58.
According to Game Warden Irvin L. Kenyon some illegal shooting had taken place. A doe and two fawns were killed and left in the field near Flint Hill. Apparently the hunter became alarmed and left without his quarry. The incident is under investigation. A doe’s head was also found near the Covington River, indicating an illegal take.
Game stations reporting were: Flint Hill 25; Washington 20; Chester Gap 15; Sperryville 24 and Amissville 8. □
