At least eight of Virginia’s highways will soon have measured one-mile stretches, designated by signs, where motorists may check their speedometers and odometers.

J. P. Mills Jr., state traffic and safety engineer, said that each of the state’s eight construction districts will have a minimum of one measured mile. More will probably be established in districts having several cities with a population of 20,000 or more.

Mills said the Highway Department receives numerous requests annually to establish such sections.
