WHAT DID it matter that there was rain and mud everywhere, with cars and horsevans stuck in the goo? Everyone had a good time, horses and hounds ran well and there were close, exciting races at Rappahannock Saturday with local favorites among the winners.
Warrenton’s Ernie Oare won the gentlemen’s timber race and now leads Randolph Rouse by one point for the Seven Corners trophy.
After two false starts, with Gil Glautt’s China Bowl eager to be off, and Oare’s Allen B. J. left at the post, the Ben Venue began with China Bowl leading up the hill from the start, - with Dr. Joe Rogers bn Black Agnes and Randolph Rouse’s Eagles Top close behind.
It looked like Gil Flautt’s race until the last, fence, when little Allen B. J., who had been moving up steadily, put on a burst of speed and caught China Bowl a few yards short of the finish. Third was Eagles Top, followed by Roy Graham on his Lord Patrick.
