A BOSTON, VA. MAN was fatally injured in a traffic crash early Sunday morning on Route 211 between Washington and Sperryville. This is the first death occurring on Rappahannock highways this year.
Ronnie Lewis Thompson, 19, died of injuries sustained in the 2 a.m. crash after being taken to the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville. He was a passenger in a car operated by his brother Ferman Deronzo Thompson Jr., also of Boston. Another brother, an occupant of the vehicle, escaped injury.
Ferman Thompson, driving a 1962 Buick, lost control of the vehicle and struck the Covington River bridge, tearing out three of the concrete sections and demolishing the car. According toTrooper W. A. Buntin, the driver sustained two fractures of the left arm and a shoulder separation, a strained back and abrasions of the head and body.
Investigation of the crash continues with charges pending.
