(From page 1) Ruhsam of The Plains won the second division of the open hurdle race on Ar- ■ thur Franklin’s Battle Ripple, and Cassie Kinglsey was a close second in the owner-rider hurdle race.
Second to Battle Ripple was Harry Semmes’ Flying Box Car, ridden by Tim Ritchey, and E. M. Eastham’s Tuckaleechee, Johnny Hughes up, third. After a spill, Johnny probably set a record for a rapid re-mount and finish.
HARRY WIGHT on his Crafty Craig won the Durant Hill hurdle race, with Mrs. Kingsley’s Artist Haven a close second, followed by Gray Price’s Hard King. Zoomer, who had been in the lead, went off course when Ernie Oare rode mistakenly to the finish line a lap too soon amidst the agonized shouts of spectators who tried to warn him.
Paddy Neilson piloted John Shapiro’s Elkridee Tiger to an easy 45-length win in the open timber race \ over John Collins’ Captain Carlo, ridden by Mike Pearson, and Alfred Smith s Hill’s Pride. '
First race of the soggy, but otherwise enjoyable day, was the pair race which was* won by the Marlborough Hunt team of John and David Meyers.
