' BCIA BULL SALE—Ninety-nine performance tested bulls will be sold to the highest bidders this Friday, March 9th at the Culpeper Enterprises’ 15th Annual Bull Sale. Fifty-eight Angus, 26 Polled Hereford, 5 Hereford and 10 Charolais will be sold. These bulls are the survivors of a rigid testing program. Thirty-seven bulls of the original 136 starting on the testing program did not meet the it/ n irigid standards' and will not sell.
As expected the top gaining and largest framed Angus bulls were produced right here in Rappahannock by consignors, Ray Cannon and C. E. Johnson Jr.
If you are in the market for a herd bull, suggest you arrive early, get out in the bull pens, compare performance records and look them over thoroughly before the sale starts. Select the type of bull that will bring about the desired changes in your cow herd. Most of us still need the type of bull that .will stretch our calves up and put and pass on the genes for increased gains, size and milking ability.
FORAGE CONFERENCE—The theme of this year’s Northern Virginia Forage Conference, Thursday, March 15, 10 a.m. at the Community Center in Middleburg, is Forage Production and Utilization With Reduced Labor. Included in the program are discussion on wintering beef cattle on fescue - by area cattlemen; Research on Pasture Renovation, Grass Varieties, Alfalfa and Crown Vetch; and Equipment for Reducing Labor in Hay Making.
