APPLE PRODUCTION may be down this year in Virginia orchards, but in Rappahannock County the production is expected to hold about the same as la£t year. Rappahannock’s Extension Agent Rapley Owings said he expected production this year to about equal last year’s 580,000 bushels.
He said Rappahannock orchards had little or no spring frost damage, but he added that present dry weather may affect the size of the fruit. But, said Owings, the color and the flavor of this year’s apples should be excellent, particularly if there is a cool fall season.
