with the complicated rig they designed and constructed to test the pulling power of tractors. The smaller tractor in center is riding on a steel sled while behind is a huge concrete block on wheels which ride up an incline on a pair of steel railroad tracks. Object of the test is to see how far a tractor can pull the cart up the track within a 200-foot course. The trailer with rubber wheels is also geared into a transmission to add pulling resistance. Tractors may compete in five weight classes from 5000 pounds to 15,000 pounds. There will also be classes for stock tractors, antiques and modified tractors. Area farmers who wish to enter the contest at Culpeper this Saturday can telephone Young Farmer Club President Rusty Inskeep at 825-0109 for information and rules concerning the event.
