EIGHTEEN women from Rappahannock County joined with groups from Fauquier, Madison, Orange and Culpeper to travel on two buses to Charlotte, N.C. for the Southern Christmas Show.
As .they entered the huge Christmas wonderland, they were greeted by a large animated scene of deer and other animals in the snow. Next, they entered the Olde Towne section with rows of old fashioned shops, with dolls, guns, stationery and a post office with old-time cracker barrels. The next feature was a musical exhibit on the “Twelve Days of
Christinas.”
A man-made Christmas tree 24 feet tall with 25 points of animation, including stylized Old English characters that light up and-revolve, slowly turns as each verse of the song is played. By the time the last verse was sung, every figure lit up and revolved, creating a picture of fantastic movement.
As they proceeded farther into the exhibits,, they entered a huge area with some 400 display booths set up on Christmas ideas. Everything imaginable relating to Christmas was available in a kit, or ready-made.
