Hunter safety
is stressed
SEVENTEEN states and three Canadian Provinces now require the completion of Hunter Safety training prior to the issuance of hunting licenses, according to Jim Kerrick, Safety Officer for the Game Commission. Out-of-state hunters who plan to hunt in the areas where this ruling is in effect must show proof of having completed a bonafide hunter safety course in their home state before hunting permits will be issued.
The states which require the mandatory training include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Kansas, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Utah, Washington. In Canada, the Provinces of Manitoba, Ontario and^Quebec have the requirement.
Persons interested in participating in the hunter safety courses offered in Virginia and which are honored by the locations requiring this training are urged to contact their local Game Warden for details. Since the hunter safety training program began in Virginia in 1961, over 126,000 persons have, successfully completed the course.*
