The amount of land to be restricted if the rivers are included in the Scenic River System will vary along with differences in terrain, flood plain and watershed. Under an open space easement the landowner would be limited to acceptible agricultural and forestry uses. The construction of single family residences is permissible if properly located.
The state Commission of Outdoor Recreation has stressed that a community can economically benefit from a scenic river. Tourist income from “outfitting and guide services” can be substantial, says the state.□
